Recovery Ropes

Factor 55 recovery ropes stretch up to 30-percent of its total length, for easy extraction from sand, mud, and snow. The Kinetic Energy Recovery Ropes (KERR) feature flexible, durable, weather-resistant polymeric coating for extreme durability, and rubberized rope eyes for maximum durability at the wear points of the rope.

Our ropes are available in a wide variety of diameters and lengths ranging from 7/8” x 10’ up to 2.5” x 30’. So, whether you’re looking to recover a small stuck ATV or a massively mired military vehicle, we’ve got a kinetic rope for you. This array of Kinetic Energy Rope options means you can get the right rope for the right application. So how do you select the appropriate rope?

Most ATVs and UTVs are going to use the 5/8” x30’ diameter ropes—plain and simple.

For trucks, SUVs, and larger rigs, purchase your Factor 55 KERR based on your vehicle’s gross vehicular weight rating (GVWR). A properly sized rope for typical SUVs and trucks is one that has a 4:1 to 6:1 minimum breaking strength to GVWR ratio. For larger vehicles (Unimogs, EarthRoamers, EarthCruisers, heavier military trucks, etc.), a 2:1 to 4:1 ratio may be acceptable. If you use a smaller and lighter KERR, rope breakage might occur. If too large and heavy, the rope won’t stretch enough, reducing the maximum kinetic energy assist. The KERR must be suited to the GVWR of the lighter of the two vehicles used in the recovery process.

With this in mind, typically:

  • Jeeps, mid-sized trucks, and SUVs should use the 7/8” x 30’ rope
  • Full-sized trucks and SUVs should use the 1” x 30’ rope
  • HD trucks, vans, and RVs should use a 1.5” x 30 rope
  • Semis, large utility or dump trucks, and tractors should use the 2” x 30’ rope
  • Mining, agricultural, and military applications should use the 2.5 x 30’ rope

What is CLOSED SYSTEM WINCHINGTM?

Closed System Winching™ is a technique that uses rigging comprised entirely of closed-link hardware. The result is the most secure and reliable winch rigging available.
In Closed System Winching, the traditional hook is upgraded to a patented Factor 55 ProLink®, FlatLink®, or UltraHook® winch line shackle mount. When combined with a shackle, you’ll have an attachment that will contain loads even during momentary slack conditions where winch loads may shift. With Closed System Winching you get the extra security and confidence needed to tackle the most demanding winch recoveries.
